Tips for moving to Portugal

No customs declaration is needed for household goods moving between EU countries.

In Portugal almost everything starts with a tax number (NIF), from a lease to a bank account. Apply early (Portal das Finanças).

If you stay longer than three months, register your residence as an EU citizen with the local authorities.

A foreign-registered car will eventually have to be registered in Portugal (IMT).

If you leave the Netherlands, deregister with your municipality (BRP).
