308 km by road
Moving from Belgium to France is one of the shortest international moves in Europe when you are heading for the north or Paris, and a long-distance one when your destination is on the Atlantic coast or the Riviera. Both countries are in the EU, so there are no customs declarations.
Route and distance
The main routes run south from Brussels via the E19/A2 towards Paris, or towards Lille. For destinations further south, removers continue on the French motorway network, which includes toll sections.
| Between | Distance |
|---|---|
| Brussels โ Paris (by road) | โ 308 km |
| Brussels โ Paris (straight line) | โ 264 km |
| Antwerp โ Lille (straight line) | โ 115 km |
| Ghent โ Bordeaux (straight line) | โ 761 km |
| Liรจge โ Nice (straight line) | โ 780 km |
Straight-line distances are great-circle distances between city centres. The road distance comes from OpenStreetMap routing (OSRM) between the city centres, checked on 30 September 2026.
Your transport options
Full load
Dedicated truck
For Brussels to Paris or Lille, a dedicated truck can often load and unload on the same day. For Bordeaux or the Riviera, the truck is on the road longer, so ask how many days the remover plans.
Shared load
Groupage
A shared load is mainly worth considering for a small volume going to the south of France. On short trips to northern France, the difference with a dedicated truck may be small.
Drive yourself
Hired van
Because northern France is close, a hired van is a realistic option for a small household, often with a one-day return. French motorways charge tolls, so include them in your comparison.
What determines the price
We do not quote fixed prices. Volume in cubic metres, the services you book (packing, dismantling, storage, insurance) and your dates matter on every move; on this route, also look at:
- Northern or southern FranceLille and Paris are close; Bordeaux and Nice are a different category of distance.
- Parking in French citiesIn Paris and other large cities, a parking space for the truck is requested from the town hall in advance.
- Lifts and stairsIn apartment buildings with a small lift or none, an external furniture lift (monte-meubles) may be needed.
For an indicative figure, use the free moving calculator and compare written quotes.
Paperwork for an EU-to-EU move
No customs declarations apply to household goods moving from Belgium to France. In Belgium, you report your departure abroad to your municipality (commune or gemeente) so your registration is updated. EU citizens can live in France without a residence permit, but you will need to update your tax, health insurance and address details.
If you bring a car, it has to be registered in France; in France this is handled online through ANTS, which also deals with driving licences. Pets travel with an EU pet passport. The Your Europe portal covers the EU-wide rules on residence, car registration and pets.
